Los Angeles Lakers — The LeBron & AD Show

This pretty well sums it up. If I’m going to be completely blunt and honest, this roster isn’t very talented. LeBron James and Anthony Davis have been carrying this roster all year, and they’re going to have to continue if they want to win the title.

Both of these players should finish top-five in MVP voting, and Davis is a sure-fire All-Defensive player.

If I surveyed people on who the third best player on the Lakers is, I would probably get a large variety of answers; Danny Green, Alex Caruso, even probably some Kyle Kuzma from the people who only get their Lakers content off House of Highlights.

Either way, none of those three compare to the third best player on the championship teams of the past. Kyle Lowry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Love, Chris Bosh, and so on. All of those players are legitimate all stars, and none of the Lakers outside of LeBron and Davis have even come so close to sniff an all star uniform within the past five years.

There is the argument that this Lakers roster is built perfectly to complement the two stars, and as much as I don’t side fully behind that, there is some truth to it.

JaVale McGee, and Dwight Howard create perfect pick-and roll-partners for LeBron. They are guys who will do the dirty work inside, and not complain about it.

Danny Green, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Avery Bradley are strong 3-and-D players. All past their prime, but have shown the Lakers promise at some point this season.

Lastly, Alex Caruso is probably the third most talented player on the Lakers’ roster. A guy who can handle the ball, explode to the rim, hit an outside shot, but also is a strong defender. As rude as it sounds, if he looked a little differently, he would be viewed in a more positive light as a good NBA player, rather than a “How did he do that?” highlight reel.

The entire supporting cast is going to have to play their role, there’s no question about that. But if James and Davis both don’t play up to the elite level they have all year, then the Lakers can kiss their championship hopes goodbye.

This tandem is more than good enough to carry a team to the NBA Finals, but they have be good, healthy, and conditioned enough for the entire playoff run, but mentally and physically.
