Solid Defender

This is always the one area where young players struggle to develop in their first couple years in the association. However, this is another reason why LaMelo Ball could very well be the most talented player in the 2020 NBA Draft class.

He’s a very good defender for his age, showing elite anticipation in the passing lanes which allowed him to collect 1.6 steals per game. Ball plays gritty, in your face defense, giving oppositions minimal room to work with. Again, this comes back to his quickness and length. He has all the tools to be an elite defender in the NBA if he wanted to really develop this area of his game. The defensive instincts are there and considering that fact alone, Ball should be able to handle opposing guards without an issue because of his size and athleticism.

Managing to average 7.5 boards per night as a guard is also very impressive. Ball isn’t afraid to get in the paint and make an impact on the glass. As he continues to fill out his lengthy frame and get stronger, Ball will only get better in this category.

With his wide array of talents on the hardwood, Ball is projected to be a top-five pick in October’s draft. It’s going to be exciting to see just how good the 18-year old will be in the NBA.
