Doc Rivers reveals his thoughts on Mavericks star Luka Doncic’s MVP candidacy

Dallas Mavericks second-year superstar Luka Doncic has been having a massive second NBA season and he has been receiving some hype in the MVP conversation. Granted, we’re still way too early in the season to talk about the MVP award, but Doc Rivers is now getting involved with his thoughts on the matter.

In a quote shared by Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News, Rivers opened up about his thoughts on Doncic’s MVP candidacy, saying that he is “absolutely” in the conversation.

Here are a few more thoughts that Rivers added.

“It’s funny, you forget that it’s his second year. I heard someone say that yesterday and I thought, ‘Wait a minute. This is just his second year?’ It feels like he’s been around a long time already, which, that’s a sign of greatness.”

Ahead of his matchup with the Clippers on Tuesday night, Doncic was averaging 28.9 points per game to go along with 9.7 rebounds and 9.0 assists. He had shot 46.7 percent from the floor overall and had knocked down 32.9 percent of his three-point attempts.

Doncic has received a ton of comparisons to LeBron James. Obviously, the two are not even close to the same player, but the numbers are looking eerily similar.

Dallas is finally back to being a serious contender in the Western Conference. With Doncic turning the heads of respected names like Doc Rivers, things are only going to get better.

Will Doncic win the MVP this season? Only time will tell, but he certainly has a decent shot.
