3. Prepare to Play Without Kristaps Porzingis
Unfortunately, there is a possibility that New York will be without their star player in Kristaps Porzingis this upcoming season. Porzingis tore his ACL February 6, 2018, against the Milwaukee Bucks at home. Despite the departure of Melo last year, the team still had some hope with Porzingis on the roster.
However, the injury of the 23-year-old will hurt the franchise going forward. As of now the timetable for the return of the 7-foot-3 forward is unknown, according to Marc Berman from the NY Post. Obviously, the team will be hindered by the injury going into the 2018-19 season. But playing without Porzingis could help this team pull closer together.
On the positive side, coach Fizdale will have some talent to work with. As of now, the projected starting lineup includes Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr., Courtney Lee, Hezonja and Enes Kanter.
The Knicks potential second unit could consist of Frank Ntilikina, Emmanuel Mudiay, Knox, Robinson, and Vonleh. Other players who could see increased playtime are Ron Baker, Lance Thomas, and Hicks. Last season the Knicks averaged 104.5 points per game which was 18th in the league.
Porzingis contributed 22.7 points per game towards the Knicks 104.5 team average. Without KP’s 22.7 points per game coach, Fizdale will have to find another source of offense.
