Who Should Get the Role?

Willy Hernangomez should be the front-runner for the backup center position in Charlotte heading into training camp. He’s the younger player and very clearly has the higher upside. If Hernangomez can stretch his offensive game to the three-point line and become a passable defender, it will accelerate the evolution of James Borrego’s offensive system with the Hornets.

Bismack Biyombo provides much less upside, but more certainty in what the return on the court will be. A utility center that provides energy and protects the rim defensively.

Regardless of how it plays out, the Charlotte Hornets finally have some reliable depth at the center position that the team can hopefully count on.
