Become More of a Facilitator
Although Irving, Rozier and Marcus Smart will be the primary ball handlers next season, Brown has got to improve on his passing. Suggesting that the 6-foot-7 guard needs to work on his passing doesn’t mean that he is horrible at it. But he often looks to score off first instinct.
Granted with last years circumstances he had to step up and be aggressive. Both Tatum and Brown played a major role in advancing to the Eastern Conference finals. Boston Head Coach Brad Stevens has done an amazing job developing this young team.
Celtics General manager Danny Ainge continues to test the markets and see what is available. With the constant development of the roster, Brown needs to continue to improve. Coach Stevens system features high motion and spacing.
Brown finished the 2017-18 season averaging 1.6 assists which is pretty low. Of course, the Georgia native is paid to score but the reality is that he needs to work on involving his teammates. He has the ability to spot up from three, take the ball off the dribble and finish on the break.
However, he needs to work on passing out of double teams, finding the open player on the break and in half court. One of the three areas that Brown needs to improve on is his assist and involving his teammates. With the return of Hayward and Irving, it’s important that the ball continues to move.
This year Brown will be entering his third year in the league. He has the ability to be a solid two-way player but he has to work on effecting the game even if he is having an off night scoring.
